Are Expensive Skincare Products ‘Better’?
We’ve all been there. Holding up two different products; one has a nice glossy label with colorful letters and a higher price tag, and the other has an okay label with some random letters that you totally aren’t even interested to read but the decent price tag is making you consider it. You want to buy a ‘good’ product but at the same time you also want to keep more than half of your paycheck as well. Here’s how you can tell whether or not more expensive skincare products are actually better…
The Elimination Process:
There should be a few things that you need to look out for in order to asses which one is the better buy. First and foremost look at the ingredients section of the product. This should give you a good idea on what you’re actually buying. More often than not, the more expensive product probably has a lot of ingredients that you have never heard of and can’t even pronounce. It most likely has a lot of water in it too. If the ingredients section of the label has a long grocery list, it’s not a good buy. Remember, the less ingredients, the better because that means that it can be absorbed better into the skin and whatever is getting absorbed is hopefully not a bunch of chemicals.
Watch out for these ingredients:
-Ci 14700 / Red 4, Ci 19140 / Yellow 5
These are just a few ingredients that are present in most products that you need to look out for because they are thickeners, colorants, and fragrance. Basically they make the product feel and look better on your skin but provide no actual benefits, and in fact, can be harmful for your skin instead.
Look for ingredients like:
-Hydrolyzed Linseed Extract
-Hydrolyzed Soy Protein
-Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid
These amazing ingredients provide anti-aging and antioxidant properties that are very necessary and essential to maintaining healthy and youthful skin.
Who Makes The Final Cut?:
On the other hand, if the more expensive skincare product holds up to it’s hefty price tag and the ingredients check out (as in they sound legit or are actual natural things), then move on to where the product was made or manufactured. Watch out for items that are made in China for example, because unfortunately there isn’t a lot of regulation in skincare and the ingredients that are made there are held to a lot different standard than in the U.S. We advise that you look for skincare products that are made in the United States, Europe or Australia to ensure that it is of higher quality and standard.
After looking at these two things you should be able to decide which one is actually worth it. If the more expensive product ticks all the boxes, then hell yea, buy it! But it is totally okay to also buy the not so expensive option as well because often times they make the cut too. Don’t be fooled by what you see aka don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Be mindful of what you read on the label and where it comes from, let that be the main deciding factor on whether to make the purchase or not.
But always remember, the less ingredients the better, and the more natural ingredients the healthier.
